Umara is inspired by my grandparents, who would gift me beautiful Indian gold jewellery, either passed down the generations or picked up in a bazaar. When I founded Umara, I knew I wanted to emulate that same experience for my customer without unnecessary price tags. The goal was simple; fine jewellery, fair prices.Â
According to reports, jewellers may mark up jewellery by as much as 1000%, making it unattainable for shoppers like me. So, I made it my mission to offer fairly priced solid gold jewellery you can enjoy for a lifetime and beyond.Â
What is fine jewellery?Â
Fine jewellery is crafted from precious metals such as gold, silver, or platinum, often using genuine gemstones, including diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires. Because it’s crafted from precious metals, fine jewellery is an investment made to last.
Our solid gold jewellery, handcrafted in India, uses only 14 and 18 karat gold and natural diamonds.
How we price our solid gold jewellery
If you’ve looked at our prices and thought they’re too good to be true, they’re not. Rather, our markup is much lower than other fine jewellery brands, particularly cult brands.
Our pricing is reflective of three core considerations:
- The karat and weight of the gold Â
- Diamond carat
- Production & marketing costs, which include hallmarking at the London Assay Office
Our prices include delivery, gift-wrapping, authenticity cards and a two-year warranty.
Why invest in solid gold jewellery?
Unlike gold-plated jewellery, solid gold jewellery is a wise investment which will hold its value over time. For example, during the financial crisis of 2008, the price of gold increased, and the same happened during the global pandemic, reaching an all-time high in March 2022.
Authenticity
In the UK, The Hallmarking Act 1973 requires all gold jewellery weighing more than 1 gram to be authenticated by one of the four assay offices in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Sheffield.Â
So, as per regulations, all our solid gold jewellery meeting the criteria is hallmarked at the London Assay Office.
Furthermore, all our products, including those below 1 gram, have also been hallmarked in India.
So, whether you’re buying fine jewellery from Umara or elsewhere, always ensure the product has been hallmarked. You can also check the Assay Assured website to ensures a online retailer has been audited and their jewellery scientifically tested.Â
Insuring your investmentÂ
Once you’ve invested in jewellery, we highly recommend getting insurance for your purchase. When you shop with Umara, you’ll receive an authenticity card detailing the karat of gold, diamond weight and clarity and weight of your jewellery. Keep hold of this card for insurance and valuation purposes.
